Cyril
Rolando, also known as AquaSixio, is a psychologist living in
southern France. Cyril's hobby as a digital painter has astounded many
by creating amazing surreal scenes.

How did you get into your chosen media?

During
my psychology studies, I started the digital painting using the oekaki
board system. I had fun. When I got enough experience, I used photoshop 7
then photoshop CS2. Art is still a hobby for me.

What was made you start writing tutorials?

I
am self-taught. I did my first steps in the digital universe and I was
suprised to saw people asking " how do you do it ? ". I didn't think my
artworks as spectacular pieces but I wanted to help explaining how I
used this software, with simplicity.

What do your tutorials provide information wise to a reader?

In
a pedagogic approach. I try to work with icons and step by step. Too
much information isn't the best way to explain something. I try to be
concise and broach on the main technical issues.

What motivated you set up your tutorials in your particular format?

I
think this is the most accessible format. I tried to do videos but this
is less easy for me. Moreover, I am french and this is hard to speak
english and be understund. This is the main brake of my tutorial
enterprise : the translation.

Do your tutorials reflect how you create artwork as an artist?

I
tried but when you draw you don't remember what you used or how you do
because it's really intuitive. Tutorials can't share this intuitions and
the step by step is the worse way to get it.

Have you used tutorials yourself?

I
tried but it was really hard to understand those tutorials like if it
lacked one or two steps everytimes... it motivates me to do my own
tutorials.

What do you hope people take from your tutorials?

I
want people keep on persevering their practice. I put two retrospective
of my artwork to show from where I started and where I am able to do
today, with this perseverance.

Do you think tutorials are a necessity to developing as an artist? Why or why not?

I
don't think. I learn digital art as a self taught artist just looking
at the achieved artwork from other artist.

What advice or words do you have for readers out there?

Have
fun with what to do, even if it's ugly. Stop to try to do perfect
things. Draw listening to music.
